Be a Game Changer – BECOME A VOLUNTEER COACH! 

At First Tee, we help kids discover what’s inside of them, guide them to strengthen it and mentor them to put it into action in everything they do.  

To do this, we need enthusiastic and caring individuals to serve as positive mentors and role models to kids and teens of various backgrounds. Our coaches’ ability to develop impactful relationships with our participants is the backbone of our program.  

You don’t have to be a golf pro (or even a good golfer), we will provide the training you need! Our training system is built on research-proven methods of positive youth development, providing coaches with the tools to make kids feel safe, included and empowered. 

Our chapters rely on volunteers — sometimes year-round — to accomplish our mission, and not all of those goals involve golf.

First Tee — Greater Detroit coaches come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. To volunteer with our program you don’t have to be a golf pro or even a good golfer. The First Tee Coach Program provides the training you need and will put you in a position where your unique background can provide the greatest impact with the children.

WE NEED YOU!

First Tee-Greater Detroit is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and caring individuals who want to be volunteer coaches and help teach youth in Greater Detroit important life skills through the game of golf. We depend on our coaches who serve as positive mentors and role models to the young people in our program. First Tee-Greater Detroit coaches receive discounts on various golf items including TaylorMade and Callaway!

VOLUNTEER COACH ROLE

-Deliver the First Tee Curriculum & Key Commitment Focus (we’ll provide the training!)
-Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
-Be enthusiastic and energetic

COMMITTMENT

-Seasonal programs run for five weeks (one session per week) for 80 minutes
-Coaches are asked to attend each class during the session they participate

RESPONSIBILITIES

– Learn the curriculum to deliver the best programming possible
– Review lesson plans prior to class (will be emailed to you directly)
– Stay informed by communicating & responding to chapter emails & correspondence
– Prepare & set up for class to ensure adherence to lesson plans

REQUIREMENTS

– Pass a background check ($20.50 fee) and complete the Safe Sport Training
– Complete the First Tee Assistant Coach Training (ACT)
– Sign a Media & Liability Waiver

To become a volunteer coach, you must complete a volunteer application and screening process, which includes a criminal background check. You will also receive training about your volunteer role, behavioral expectations, and child protection.
